Here I am for the second time today, serving up the tea! Am I the only one who struggles with finding a routine that works? Probably not, but sometimes I feel like I'm on this little Island where time flies by and you can't figure out how to fit everything that you need to do in the 24 hours that we all get everyday.
One of my realistic goals for 2020 is coming up with a daily routine and sticking to it. Coming up with a routine isn't the issue, let me repeat the real issue that I hinted in the sentence before, STICKING TO IT. I've been reading article after article and doing my research on how to make an effective daily/weekly routine... so here I am, sharing the wealth lol.
First off, I had to ask myself, what areas are you struggling in daily/weekly? For me, I really need a solid morning routine. I'm the person who hits snooze 3 times, then wakes up at the very last second and rushes to get ready... which then causes self inflicted anxiety (because I'm rushing). Granted, I'm never late for work or wherever else I need to be but everyday I ask myself, why don't I just get up at a decent time and ease into the day. That's my goal. So this afternoon I took a leap and changed my alarm settings to 30 minutes earlier than I had them previously. Now if you're thinking like me, you may be going, okay but you will still hit snooze!? I plan to start putting my phone far enough from my bed that it'll force me to get up in order to turn it off. BAM! This is bound to work, at least I hope so.
So next I asked myself, great, so you get up a half hour earlier but what's next? I had to brainstorm on the things I actually need to do in the morning that are lacking. Honestly, there's not much. I prep my clothes, lunch and work bag the night before but with an extra 30 minutes I will be able to start my day on 1 instead of 10, which is my main goal. Easing into my day will include not frantically running around the house every morning and hoping I didn't forget to do anything. I will have more time to take my dog out, make sure I grab the items that need to go in my lunch bag, prep and primp myself the way I would on the weekend when I have more time. None of this sounds major but the objective is to stop freaking myself out everyday lol. Eventually, if all goes well, I'm hoping to wake up even earlier. Perhaps up the 30 minutes to an hour, so that I can incorporate reading and yoga in the morning as well. But baby step, right? It's all about realistic goal setting for me next year, and I have to start somewhere without making it so out of reach that I won't follow through.
In regards to my evening, I pretty much stick to a routine. I come home from work, shower/do my facial routine, change into pj's, feed my pup, eat dinner, read, update my journal(s) and then watch tv. I tend to get in bed around 8:30-9:00pm, which is when I have my nightly cup of tea. By 10:30-11:00pm, I am asleep. The only thing I would like to tweak in my evening routine is more reading time and 30 minutes for working out consistently 3 days a week (until I work my way up to doing it in the morning). So nothing major in this area but a few things to work on. We are all works in progress anyway, right? I'm hoping to master the daily/weekly routine that works for me. It may take some trial and error but I think it's time that I actually work on this instead of continuing the same patterns that clearly aren't working. Tonight I will go to bed with my phone on the other side of my bedroom, and let's hope that it'll force me to get up and moving tomorrow morning! Wish me luck!
